Abraham senior performed in Los Dinos, the band which started the whole thing. Selena Y Los Dinos was officially formed in the year 1981. It was Quintanilla's family's primary business venture and source of income. Quintanilla was determined, despite not having much money at their beginning. They continued to work towards becoming a successful family band. Selena Y Los Dinos, a band that gained popularity throughout the West by the middle of the decade was the result of their perseverance. The group received their first taste of fame in the form of Selena received awards for Female Vocalist of the Year as well as Performer of the Year at the Tejano music awards. From that point on Selena Y Los Dinos were one of the most successful winners year after year and gained notoriety and fame. They've been featured in a number of Spanish TV shows such as El Show De Johnny Canales - Siempre En Domingo and Sabado Gigante.
